Well Logging

ANSWERS supplies a range of Well Logging Software, including:

MCBEND - A Monte Carlo program for general radiation transport.

MCBEND has been successfully applied to all types of nuclear logging tool applications over a number of years as it performs an exact computer simulation of the operation of the nuclear logging tool.

PUNDIT- An interactive graphical tool for setting up and performing MCBEND calculations for nuclear logging tools in realistic downhole environments.

PUNDIT has been tailored for Pulsed Neutron Logging and can incorporate validated commercial logging tool models.

For over 10 years, our depth of experience in the nuclear industry has been applied to improve the understanding, application and performance of nuclear well logging techniques to the benefit of the oil industry.

We provide consultancy within the nuclear well logging area to meet all requirements. We have been successfully running industry club funded projects for many years. Customers with specific needs have benefited from individual Consultancy.

For the past 10 years ANSWERS' depth of experience in the nuclear industry has been applied to improve the understanding, application and performance of nuclear well logging techniques to the benefit of the oil industry.Insight into the performance of commercial nuclear logging tools in down-hole environments can be obtained using the validated software package MCBEND which performs an exact computer simulation of the operation of the tool. Coupled with its 3D modelling capability, MCBEND provides reference quality calculations that have even been used for tool calibration.MCBEND has been extensively validated for well logging applications through recent industry club funded projects. Customers with specific needs have benefited from individual consultancy work, e.g. to assess the suitability of a particular tool in specific well conditions prior to incurring operational expenses.

Amongst the projects carried out to date are:

  • predictions of the response of both wireline and MWD gamma density tools to environmental effects including stand-off, mudcake, rugosity, horizontal and inclined thin beds and non-circular borehole shapes
  • the response of neutron porosity tools to environmental effects includingborehole size and salinity, formation lithology and stand-off
  • characterisation of the response of pulsed neutron capture and carbon-oxygen tools to changes in formation and borehole fluids.

In many of these projects we have gained privileged information on the designs of commercial logging tools from participating service companies. For such commercially sensitive designs the 'Secure Geometry' option hides the detail from the user, who benefits from using an approved tool model. 14 commercial tools are currently encrypted in MCBEND.
