Well Logging

ANSWERS supplies a range of Well Logging Software, including:

MCBEND

A Monte Carlo program for general radiation transport.

MCBEND has been successfully applied to all types of nuclear logging tool applications over a number of years as it performs an exact computer simulation of the operation of the nuclear logging tool.

ANSWERS depth of experience in the nuclear industry has been applied to improve the understanding, application and performance of nuclear well logging techniques to the benefit of the oil industry. Insight into the performance of commercial nuclear logging tools in down-hole environments can be obtained using the validated software package MCBEND which performs an exact computer simulation of the operation of the tool.

Coupled with its 3D modelling capability, MCBEND provides reference quality calculations that have even been used for tool calibration. Customers with specific needs have benefited from individual consultancy work, e.g. to assess the suitability of a particular tool in specific well conditions prior to incurring operational expenses.

Amongst the projects carried out to date are:

  • Predictions of the response of both wireline and MWD gamma density tools to environmental effects including stand-off, mudcake, rugosity, horizontal and inclined thin beds and non-circular borehole shapes

  • The response of neutron porosity tools to environmental effects including borehole size and salinity, formation lithology and stand-off

  • Characterisation of the response of pulsed neutron capture and carbon-oxygen tools to changes in formation and borehole fluids.
